July 26 is Aunts and Uncles Day

Aunt and uncles are the cool relatives people turn to when they advice from someone other than their parents. Aunts and uncles are considered to be trustworthy yet more fun than our actual parents. Advertisers have picked up on this aunt and uncle vibe by relying on these personas to sell us pancakes and rice.

Consider Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben, for starters.

Then we have the patriotic Uncle Sam.

Popular TV shows and movies featuring trusted aunts and uncles have included:

Aunt Bee on "The Andy Griffith Show"
Auntie Em in "The Wizard of Oz"
Aunt Ester on "Sanford and Son"
Aunt Patty and Aunt Selma - "The Simpsons"
Kooky Aunt Clara on "Bewitched"

Uncle Jesse on "Full House"
Uncle Jesse on "The Dukes of Hazzard"
Uncle Leo from "Seinfeld"
Uncle Scrooge - comic books, movies
Uncle Pennybags - Monopoly game

There have been a few instances of aunts and uncles we'd rather avoid, namely the Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter series.

July 26 is also

All or Nothing Day
Coffee Milkshake Day
The Anniversary of U.S. Army Desegregation
